"Am I Addicted?" - Test Yourself

Gudrun Zomerland, MFT

Because I think self-tests for any kind of addiction can be very helpful in determining whether you or a loved one has a problem, I have researched the internet to find some to include on my webpage. I focused my search on tests that were not linked to any specific treatment facility. Not that anything is wrong with those tests, but I don't want to advertise for one treatment program over another.

When it came to drugs and alcohol I ended up only including one test each because I found those to be the most comprehensive; whereas for other types of addictions I often included a couple of different though similar tests.

Interesting to me was that I found not one test for marijuana addiction. However, I found a few informative websites describing the dangers of ongoing pot smoking to overall motivation and to physical health.

Another interesting tidbit was that most eating disorder tests ask questions determining anorexia. I have found none that exclusively determine overeating and/or binging. I have included one that asks questions for anorexia, overeating and binging.

You will find these self-tests on my webpage under Client Resources. If you know of self-tests that you have found helpful, perhaps for process addictions not included here, please let me know and I will include them so that they might help someone else.
